Schertz grew from 31,465 people in 2010 to 42,002 at the 2020 Census, and the city spans three counties: its center sits in Guadalupe, with tracts reaching into Comal and Bexar. The Schertz EDC now puts the population above 44,000 and calls it the largest city in Guadalupe County.

It is a military town too. Part of the Randolph Field property extends inside city limits, and the EDC says about 22% of residents are veterans.
Retail is catching up. Schertz Station, a 257,000 square foot retail and dining hub on I-35, added a Panera in October 2025, and the EDC's news page also lists a $12 million parks project, announced in 2024, that adds field lights at the Schertz Soccer Complex.
Owners have two local groups to call. The Schertz EDC at 1400 Schertz Parkway offers development assistance, business retention and expansion help and a job board. The Chamber (Schertz-Cibolo-Selma Area) received U.S. Chamber 4-star accreditation in 2023.
Training happens close by. Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD was named a CTE District of Distinction, one of 38 in Texas, with 86 courses across 16 areas of study. Northeast Lakeview College in neighboring Universal City runs a Cyber Defense Institute and offers a Cyber Defense associate degree.
