Lakeway had about 19,300 residents and a median household income of about $190,000 in the latest five-year Census survey. The city lists its largest employers as Lake Travis ISD, Lakeway Resort and Spa, and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Lakeway.

RR 620 is the commercial corridor, and city revenue comes mainly from property tax, sales tax and franchise fees. The hospital at 100 Medical Parkway has 106 beds and was called Lakeway Regional Medical Center before Baylor Scott & White bought it.

Lakeway's volunteer Economic Development Committee, formed in October 2020, meets the fourth Thursday of the month at City Hall and has worked on the RR 620 corridor, the Loyal to Lakeway billboard campaign and retail gap studies in 2022, 2024 and March 2026.

The Square at Lakeway, a planned 63-acre mixed-use project on Lohmans Crossing Road, is still in planning after a proposed incentive deal was withdrawn in January 2026. Rough Hollow sits on more than three miles of Lake Travis shoreline.

Next door in Bee Cave, the Hill Country Galleria is a 1.3 million-square-foot mixed-use center of shops, offices and apartments. Bee Cave has its own Bee Cave Development Corporation.
